GoDaddy is one of America's premier Domain reseller, website hosting companies and website design leaders. A phenomenal brand that listens to its customers and delivers on its promises. An exemplar of the philosophy of: "putting the customer first". Hence, the incredible growth and success.
It was founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1997 by entrepreneur, Bob Parsons — while first doing business under the name Parson's Technology. Before creating the name GoDaddy, Parsons Technology was a financial services software company that was sold to Intuit for $65 million dollars in 1994.
This natural entrepreneur came out of retirement in 1997, launching Jomax Technologies. He and his creative team were brainstorming a new brand name to launch a new company that specialized in reselling domains. They came up with the name "How about Big Daddy"; but soon realized that the name and domain was already taken. From this brainstorming came the name; "GoDaddy". In February 2006, Parsons and his creative team changed the name from "Go Daddy" to "GoDaddy".
After a critical decision by ICANN in 2001, Network Solutions soon lost their monopoly to be the only company to sell domain names. At this time, there were only two other companies licensed by ICANN to resell domain names — Dotster and eNom.
Four short years later, in 2005, GoDaddy became the largest ICANN-accredited domain registrar on the Internet.
After nearly 7 years of tremendous growth — due to their phenomenal brand name, celebrity endorsements and an aggressive advertising campaign, GoDaddy announced it was purchasing Outright.com, in 2012. Shortly thereafter, in 2013, GoDaddy also acquired Locu for $70 million dollars. During the same year, GoDaddy also acquired the domain marketplace Afternic from a company called NameMedia. Also in 2013, GoDaddy bought the "domain parking service" called SmartName along with its business name generator called NameFind.
Now headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, GoDaddy is known worldwide for its domain registrar services, website hosting and (SSL) security certificates, and their proprietary website design services — utilizing WordPress —and most importantly, their incredible 24/7/365 customer and technical support services.
In April of 2015, GoDaddy successfully entered the publicly traded corporate world by initiating its IPO (Initial Public Offering) at $20 dollars per share - after recently being rated at a price between $17 and $19 dollars per share.
Today, in 2018, led by CEO Scott Wagner, GoDaddy has nearly 6,000 employees and boasts revenue of over $2,231.9 million dollars (2017) and is considered one of the most respected and renowned domain name reseller, website hosting and website design companies in the world. As a public company, classified with an "A" rating, GoDaddy stock can be purchased on the New York Stock exchange - traded as "NASDAQ: GDDY".
